Trying to secure a place on an undergraduate course for September 2021? Don’t stress if you didn’t end up getting the results you were hoping for. You can still get a place on a course through UCAS Clearing.
What is Clearing? Simply put, Clearing is part of the UCAS application process. It pairs applicants with UK university places that haven’t been filled up yet, and it’s become a super popular way for students from all over the world to secure a last-minute place at a UK university.
To help guide you through Clearing, we’ve rounded up a quick guide on all the Clearing deadlines you need to be aware of. So do yourself a favour, and bookmark this page. It’s going to come in handy throughout the summer.
5 July 2021 | Clearing opens
Clearing officially kicks off on Monday 5 July. If you’ve already got the exam results of the qualifications you need, you can get in touch to secure your place. If you’re still waiting on exam results, you’ll probably need to wait until Results Day in August to secure your offer.
10 August 2021 | A Level Results Day and SQA Results Day
Normally, A Level Results Day and SQA Results Day are on different dates. But this year, students from England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland will all receive their results on the same day.

10 August 2021 | UCAS Adjustment opens
Did you end up getting better results than you were expecting? If so, congratulations! You may then be able to secure a place on another course using the Adjustment process.
Adjustment is designed for applicants who exceed the conditions of their offer. If this happens to you, you’ll be able to swap your course for another one with higher entry requirements.
Adjustment is open for all students, and it runs from 10 August 2021 until 18 August 2021.
18 August 2021 | Adjustment is over
If you’d like to apply through Adjustment, the last day you can apply is 18 August 2021.
7 September 2021 | Applications open for 2022 entry
Clearing is a fantastic way to secure a place for September 2021. But don’t worry if things don’t go your way this year. You can apply for a place in September 2022 entry, and 7 September 2021 is the day that UCAS opens up applications for September 2022.
