This is it: you’ve put in the work, secured an offer and it’s almost time to join us here at the University of Stirling. We’re so excited to welcome you onto campus, and we’ve got several events and activities planned to help you make the most of your first week at Stirling.

That’s why we’ve put together this quick checklist. Just follow these steps, and we promise you’re going to have an incredible first week at the University of Stirling. So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get started.

1. Find out when you can check into accommodation

If you’re staying in University-managed accommodation, you can move in from Saturday 11 January 2020. Our Accommodation Services team will give you a moving in date, time and key collection point – but first you’ll need to complete your online induction using your Accommodation Dashboard on the student portal.

2. Pick up your ID card

You aren’t a fully-fledged student until you’ve picked up your student ID card. This will give you access facilities, on-campus services and Canvas (our online learning system).

3. Attend your programme and module induction sessions

Your programme has induction sessions so you can meet the staff, other students and learn how things work at Stirling. There are also initial meetings for each of the modules you have chosen to study  that will provide essential information to help you find your feet.

If you’re a joint honours student, you should attend the events for both subject areas.

4. Check when and where your modules start

Take a look at when and where your modules will be meeting for the first time, and leave plenty of time to get to class. An easy way to get your schedule in order is to use our timetable generator.

5. Explore Canvas

Canvas is the University’s online learning environment. When you’re fully enrolled, you’ll get access to the Canvas area for each of your modules where your lecturers will post course information like readings, timetables, how things work and more.

6. Get involved

If you’re joining us from overseas, we’ve planned information sessions to help you kickstart your life at Stirling, including Study Abroad International Orientation and Student Learning Services Workshops. You also have our annual ReFreshers Week at the Stirling Students’ Union to look forward to! This is your golden opportunity to make new friends, explore new passions and get a feel for campus life.

7. Get to know campus

All the facilities you’ll need are a short walk from each other, but there’s more to our beautiful 330-acre campus than meets the eye. You should download a campus map and make yourself familiar with your new home and the City of Stirling during your first week.

8. Meet your personal tutor

All of our students are allocated a personal tutor when they arrive on campus. Your tutor will be your ‘rock’ throughout your studies – a friendly face who’ll keep you on track and make sure you’ve got all the help you need to succeed. Your tutor will be in touch to arrange to meet you in the first two weeks of the semester.

9. Complete your Stirling Essentials module

Before January, you’ll be given access to Stirling Essentials, an online module designed to help you prepare for life at Stirling. We recommend you work through this module before you arrive.

Complete the Stirling Essentials

Trust us: if you complete everything on this list, you’re in for an incredible first week. Be sure to check out our student welcome site for all the information you’ll need to get started at Stirling – and if you’ve got any additional questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We’re always happy to help, and we can’t wait to welcome you onto campus in January!
