This is it: you’ve put in the work, secured an offer and it’s almost time to join us here at the University of Stirling. We’re so excited to welcome you onto campus, and we want to do our best to help you make the most of your first weeks at Stirling.
That’s why we’ve put together this quick checklist. Just follow these steps, and we promise you’re going to have an incredible start to your time here at the University of Stirling.
So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get started.
1. Complete your Stirling Essentials module
Stirling Essentials is our online module designed to help you prepare for life at Stirling. We recommend you work through this module before you begin your studies.
You can complete the Stirling Essentials module through Canvas, which is the University’s online learning environment.
2. Find out when you can book an accommodation slot
If you’re staying in University-managed accommodation, we’re operating a carefully-managed, staggered arrival system over a period of several weeks. That means you’ll need to book an arrival timeslot for moving in.
Undergraduate arrival timeslots will start on Saturday 4 September and go until Sunday 19 September. Postgraduate students will be able to book a slot from 20 September to 3 October. Earlier arrival slots will be available for those who need to self-isolate in student managed accommodation.
You can choose your arrival date and time now via your accommodation dashboard. You can access this from your Student Portal.
3. Stay on top of changes at Stirling
Here at Stirling, your safety is our top priority. That’s why we’ve introduced a range of new safety measures to help you make the most of your time on campus.
Check out our website so that you’re up-to-date on all the health and safety measures we’ve got on campus, including where and when you’ve got to wear masks or face coverings, on-campus vaccinations, and more.
3. Sign up for a skills workshop
Want to make the most of your first couple of weeks at Stirling?
Starting 18 August, we’ll be putting on over 120 free online workshops designed to help you develop a wide range of skills. Workshops will cover IT, writing, reading, studying, researching and using the library, language and culture for international students, and loads more.
These workshops are a brilliant way to help you find your feet before you arrive on campus.
4. Get involved
In the first few weeks of the semester, we’ll be offering a range of activities both on-campus and online to help you meet new friends and make a great start to life at Stirling.
On campus, you’ll find loads happening in our stunning outdoor spaces and lochside marquee such as welcome BBQs with live DJs and gourmet food, Freshers Fayre, Welcome Zone, Clubs and Societies Fayre, Sports Union Fayre, lochside yoga, preloved swap shop, campus tours, UV zumba, fireside talks, meet the alpacas, highland games challenge, movie nights and much more!
But we’ve also got a range of amazing online activities you can take part in. Discover our BeConnected programme of online events, resources and activities designed to help you connect with the University community throughout the semester — whether you’re studying on-campus or online.
5. Attend your programme and module induction sessions
The University of Stirling has five Faculties, and each Faculty plans its own set of induction sessions to help you settle into life at Stirling and meet your classmates.
These induction sessions will take place during your first few weeks at Stirling in order to answer your questions and give you a taste of what’s to come.
If you’re a joint honours student, you should attend the events for both subject areas.
6. Explore Canvas and sign up for teaching sessions
Canvas is the University’s online learning environment. When you’re fully enrolled, you’ll get access to the Canvas area for each of your modules where your lecturers will post course information like readings, timetables, how things work and more.
This is where you sign up for teaching sessions and find out what you need to do (and when it needs done). Be sure to sign up soon, as teaching sessions quickly become full. Your lecturers will be on hand to help you. Canvas will be available for new students to use from 6 September onwards.
7. Get to know campus
All the facilities you’ll need are a short walk from each other, but there’s more to our beautiful 330-acre campus than meets the eye.
On Friday 3 September and Wednesday 8 September, we’re offering small guided campus tours, which will give you an in depth, look around our facilities and help you, find your way around before Welcome Week starts. You can book your tour here.
Whether you attend a guided tour or not, you should also download a campus map to make yourself familiar with your new home and the City of Stirling during your first week.
8. Download the University of Stirling app
Get all your university services at your fingertips with our new University of Stirling app. The University of Stirling app provides real-time, on-the-go, anytime information to support you during your time at Stirling.
It’s available to all students and staff for free. So what are you waiting for?
