You’ve made it to your final year! It’s an important time, with lots to do, but there’s plenty to look forward to too.
To help you make the most of it, recent graduate Ciara shares the advice she’d give herself if she was starting final year again.
Show up
If I was to do my final year again, I’d tell myself to go to all my lectures and seminars.
I found the dissertation lectures and workshops really useful in particular. They gave me the chance to ask questions and find out what was expected of me, as well as teaching me skills that I think I would have struggled without when writing my dissertation.
Ask for help when you need it
Stay calm! Remember that your lecturers and other University staff know what you’re going through and are there to help.
If you’re struggling, don’t be afraid to ask for support.
Use the Careers Service
The University’s Careers Service is great! You can use it after you graduate, but I think it’s worth speaking to the team during your final year too.
They can give you feedback on your CV and advice about the sector you want to work in, and help you find relevant experience through part-time work and internships before you finish university. They can also help you feel more confident about what comes next.
Picture the end goal
It can be tough juggling assignments, sitting exams and writing your dissertation, but it’s important to keep picturing the end goal of graduating.
All your hard work will be worth it when you see the results and are walking across that stage at graduation. Soak in every win and success you experience in your final year!

Remember to enjoy it!
Your final year can feel intense and time consuming. However, as much as you should be working hard, you should also make time to have fun. Go to society and club events, hang out with your friends. This is your final year at university – make the most of it!
