Let’s face it: plans don’t always come together – and when Results Day rolls around, you might not end up getting the exam results you were hoping for. Do yourself a favour and don’t panic. You may still be able to secure a place on another course through Clearing.
Clearing is part of the UCAS application process in which students without a place are matched with unis that still have course spaces available. There are going to be loads of options available to you throughout the Clearing process – but you’ve got to bear in mind Clearing is competitive.
You’ll need to make sure you’re prepared before Clearing starts, because you’ve got to act fast to secure a place for September. So, exactly when does university Clearing start?
To help you get started with your prep, we’ve compiled this comprehensive guide spelling out all the 2019 Clearing deadlines and timings you need to be aware of.

15 August 2019 | Adjustment opens
Have you done better in your exams than you were expecting? Congrats are definitely in order – and if you’d like to shop around, you might be able to secure a place on a different course through Adjustment.
If you exceed the conditions of your offer and would like to swap it for another course that has higher entry requirements, Adjustment is your golden opportunity. Adjustment opens for all students on A Level Results Day, and it runs until 31 August.

4 September 2019 | Applications open for 2020 entry
Unable to secure a place through Clearing for 2019 entry? There are plenty of options available to you, and one of those options will be to apply for a course starting in 2020.
If you’d like to apply for September 2020 entry, UCAS will begin accepting online applications from Wednesday 4 September.
23 October 2019 | Clearing closes
The train will pull out of the station on Wednesday 23 October. This will be the absolute last day you can secure a place through Clearing for 2019 entry.
That being said, the vast majority of undergraduate courses start in September – and so you really shouldn’t leave Clearing until last minute. Not only will you miss out on great places, but you could miss the entire first month of your studies. It’s hard to come back from that.
If you can, get in touch with us in August after securing your results so that we can help you to find a place.
Any questions?
Give us a call. We’re always happy to help, and our Clearing Team will do our absolute best to help you secure a place September 2019.
Just remember: don’t panic. You’ve got this, and we’ll be on stand-by to guide you every step of the way.
