Community is a big part of what makes Stirling so special, and whether you’re a new student looking to find your people, or a continuing student wanting to expand your social circle, it’s never too late to make connections.
Here are our top tips for finding your community at Stirling.
Make the most of your course community
Some of the best uni friendships come from just showing up to your lectures and groups. Since you’re on the same course as your classmates, you already know you have something in common with them – all you need to do is start a conversation.
A simple question like asking about a reading list or checking a deadline could lead to a lifelong friendship.
Clubs and societies
If you’re looking to meet people with similar interests to you, clubs and societies are a great place to start. There’s a mix of more than 120 to choose from on campus, covering everything from well-known hobbies to niche interests. You can join more than one, and if the club/society you’re looking for doesn’t exist, you can start it yourself.
Visit the Students’ Union website for more info.
Campus events
Our Be Connected programme runs throughout the year and offers free, relaxed ways to meet other students and try something new. From craft workshops and cultural events to board game nights and free cinema screenings, there’s always something going on. Keep an eye on our website for all the latest events.
If you live in campus accommodation, there are loads of free Residence Assistant-organised events you can go along to too, like quiz nights, local walks and hot drink socials.
Volunteering on campus
Volunteering is a great way build your skills and give back to the community while meeting others.
There are loads of volunteering opportunities on campus, from committee and trustee roles to sustainability projects and student representation. Find out more on the Students’ Union website.
As an added bonus, you can get recognition for your volunteering through initiatives like My Stirling Award and Community Champions.
Get active and connect
There are lots of opportunities to get active and meet new people on campus throughout the year.
With our Active Campus programme, you can join a range of free classes like yoga and Pilates – so you can look after your wellbeing while connecting with other students.
If you’re into sport but not ready to join a team, our Just Play Sport sessions could be for you. These are just-for-fun, no pressure activities where you can meet likeminded people.
You’ll also find high-energy events on offer like UV dodgeball and Ravemington. They’re all about shared experience and having a good time.
