Meet your sabbatical officers: Laura Shaw

Sports Union President for 2024/25 Laura Shaw

Get to know your Sports Union President for 2024/25, Laura Shaw.

Hi Laura. Can you tell us about your role at the Students’ Union?

I’m in charge of running the Sports Union and looking after all 54 sports clubs here at Stirling.

A big focus of mine is making sure we’re getting new members every year. I also want to help build relationships between the sports clubs.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Giving students the same experience that the Sports Union, and sport in general, gave me when I was a student.

Can you describe yourself in three words?

I want to say bubbly, hardworking and dedicated. But it’s like hardworking and dedicated, with a side of bubbly. I can be serious, but I like to have fun too.

How can students get in touch with you?

The best way to get in touch with me is through email on sports.union@stir.ac.uk. You can also contact me on Instagram @stirlingsportsunion

Thanks Laura. Now onto the quickfire round:

Cats or dogs? Dogs.

Music or movies? I’d say movies – although I can never sit long enough to finish them!

Summer or winter? I grew up in the Caribbean, so I’m a big summer fan.

Sweet or savoury food? Aw, sweet – I have a really big sweet tooth.

Tea or coffee? Coffee.

Night out or in? Oh, that’s a tough one. Can I say it depends on the day of the week?

Android or iPhone? iPhone.

Audio book or physical book?  … neither? I have dyslexia so I don’t really read! If I had to pick, I’d say physical because when I do read, I don’t like looking at a screen. I like a physical book because I can see how much I’ve accomplished.

Texting or voice messaging? I’m a bit of both. If it’s a long message that I can’t be bothered to type, voice notes are quicker. If I had to pick one though, I would say text.

Mondays off or Fridays off? Oh Fridays. My Sundays are just prepping for the week and I’d rather get Monday over and done with.

You can find out more about Laura and her role on the Students’ Union website.
