Looking after your wellbeing at university

As a university student, it can be tough balancing classes, coursework and studying with your personal commitments – but it’s important you still take the time to look after your wellbeing.

To help you feel your best, here are our top tips:

Get as much sunshine in as you can

Sunlight produces vitamin D, which is essential for boosting your mood.  Try and get outside while it’s still light out. Whether that’s a lunchtime walk between classes or enjoying a coffee with friends on an outdoor bench – it all counts. There are lots of great walking routes on campus you can check out.

Make time to do what you enjoy

That could be watching your comfort TV show, cooking your favourite meal, getting lost in a book or trying out a new video game. It’s important you regularly make time to do what you enjoy.

Socialise

Even the most introverted of us need socialisation from time to time. Being social doesn’t necessarily mean going on a big night out – it can be as simple as attending your classes in person, calling a family member once or twice a week, or having a friend over for a movie night.

If you’re looking to meet new people, you can head along to one of our free Be Connected events or join one of the many student societies on campus.

Look after your body

It’s scientifically proven being active can make us healthier and happier, but you don’t have to force yourself to do types of exercise you don’t enjoy. Go for a brisk walk while you listen to your favourite podcast, check out some of our Just Play sessions, or join one of the Sports Union’s clubs.

Just 30 minutes of activity a day makes all the difference. Check out more ideas for staying active.

Get the support you need

Sometimes, we just don’t feel like ourselves – and that’s ok. But if you’re feeling sad, anxious, stressed or havea lack of motivation on a regular basis, it’s important you speak to someone.

Make an appointment with your GP, or contact our Student Services Hub and a member of team will put you in touch with one of our counsellors or mental health advisors.

As a Stirling student, you also have access to a confidential 24/7 support helpline.

Remember, there’s no shame in asking for help.
